Six Week Check-In

It's been about 6 weeks since I started concentrating on weight training. Thanks to my wonderful "trainer" I've seen some progress. I wish I had taken measurements prior to starting but I did not. I notice definition in my arms and he noted today that my back/hip area looks smaller. My goal is to gain definition, not mass, and lose weight. While I'm on my way to all these things, sadly, the weight loss just isn't happening. In fact, I've gained about 5lbs. He says it could be because I've gained muscle but I'm not so sure. I feel like my clothes are tighter and although I feel "fit" I don't feel thin.

After talking about this some time, I decided on two things. One, I need to be eating better. I am not eating poorly by any means but there are many things I can cut out (dark chocolate my co-worker brings me, alcohol, snacky foods, sugar) and things I need to increase namely cardio. Cardio was never an issue for me since I was training for the half marathon and other races but now that I can't run, I need to focus on the things I can do: elliptical and bike.

Josh will be gone for the month of July so my workouts are up to me. I'm going to concentrate more on cardio and core/abs, but still do strenth training. I am going to try out some classes if my schedule allows and will certainly try yoga classes. I will come up with a gym schedule shortly. If I write it down and put it out there, I'll be more accountable. I'm sad Josh won't be around, it's nice having a gym buddy to motivate me.

I will take measurements and weigh myself this weekend so I have something to compare to at the end of July. New month, new goals.
